Columbia Police arrested 2 people on theft and drug charges Wednesday.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to Columbia Wal-Mart to a reported theft. Officers were advised that a white female wearing a black hoodie had attempted to push a shopping cart with approximately $2,100 in merchandise out the exit without paying. When approached, she left the cart and fled with 2 bags. Once on the scene, officers found the perpetrator had fled in a black 4-door car and headed east on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway. Officers were able to initiate a traffic stop. As a result, over $700 dollars in merchandise was recovered along with illegal narcotics .
Arrested were Paul Meece, 25, of Russell Springs, KY, and Sarah Nicely, 30, of Somerset, KY. Meece was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st degree Methamphetamine. Nicely was charged with Felony Theft by Unlawful Taking over $500. Both were lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
The arrests were made by CPD Officer Josh Brockman and Officer Charles Greer.
