At last night's meeting of the Casey County Board of Education, Chair Michael Turner presented the Community Champion Award to Tarter Industries.
The Board heard a detailed progress report on the old Liberty Gym renovation. The facility has numerous upgrades in design & function. The representative from Branscum Construction says the project should be completed by the end of the month.
Mr. Kevin Stephens presented Attendance awards to Liberty Elementary and Walnut Hill Elementary. Liberty Elementary was also recognized for High Attendance Day for Region 14.
Mr. Boyd Harris gave a lengthy Analysis of the latest K-PREP scores for Casey County Schools. The 2016-17 school year is a transition period away from the Unbridled Learning Accountability Model, to a new model, expected to take effect in the 2018-19 school year. Harris says the priorities and goals for continuos improvement will continue to focus on Increasing the Proficient percentages and Decrease the Novice numbers, closure of Achievement Gap by boosting lower performing groups, and to focus on Opportunity for all students to engage in each content area.
Mrs. Randolph gave the Financial Report. She stated the overall total cash was up $2 million dollars from last year, due to the sale of bonds. General fund cash is up nearly a half million dollars from the prior year, but down $206,000 from the prior month. General fund balance is at $3.8 million dollars. She told the Board there may be some budget cuts ahead, according to the latest plan submitted to Governor Bevin by the Education Commissioner. Randolph says the current cuts are based on a preliminary proposal and could be rejected by the Gov.
