CASEY CO. FISCAL COURT 12/5/17

The Casey County Fiscal Court met in regular session last night.

Captain Chuck Dorman, of the Casey County Rescue Squad briefed the court on an equipment grant. This will be the first grant for the Rescue Squad since 2007, and will be used to replace protective clothing. The new gear will help reduce heat stress on the men, and greatly reduce entanglement issues, among other benefits. The grant was requested through Kentucky Emergency Management in the amount of nearly $8,600. The grant was awarded for 80%, with the rescue squad matching 20%. The total amount received is nearly $6,900 and will be used to purchase 12 sets of gear. This will be a pass through grant, meaning the funds will come to the Fiscal Court, then onto the rescue squad. Judge Executive Randy Dial asked for authorization in advance to sign over the grant agreement upon arrival. The motion was approved by unanimous vote.

The fiscal court went into executive session for about 15-20 minutes to discuss the future aquisition of property. No action was taken in that session.

In E-911 Business, Judge Dial asked for a motion to advertise for bids on a new Communications tower. The current 275 foot tower has been deemed unsafe to climb. Other options were explored, such as leasing space on current cellular towers, however, those towers were nearly half as tall. Thanks to a grant of nearly $100,000, the dispatch center has mostly all new equipment. With the hilly terrain of Casey County, Judge Dial asserted that even with the best equipment, our communications may still be lacking. The motion to advertise for bids on a new 300 foot tower to be built was approved by unanimous vote.
