A traffic stop followed by a K-9 alert resulted in two persons being arrested Friday night in Russell County on drug trafficking and possession charges.
Just before 8:00 p.m. Deputy Nathan Ginn stopped a pickup truck on Maple Street for an equipment violation. After a brief conversation with the driver, Det. Joey Hoover utilized K-9 Maxo resulting in two positive alerts by K-9 Maxo to the odor of illegal drugs emitting from the truck. A subsequent search by officers resulted in the discovery of “crystal methamphetamine”, a “loaded syringe”, marijuana, other items of drug paraphernalia and various pills.
The driver, Johnathon Mark Blakey, 48, and a passenger, Brittany Dawn Gilpatrick, 27, both of Jamestown, KY were arrested and charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (meth), Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Gilpatrick was also charged with Illegal Possession of Legend Drug.
Both were processed and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.
