COMER RECEIVES "TAXPAYERS' FRIEND AWARD" FOR VOTING RECORD ON FISCAL ISSUES

WASHINGTON, DC - The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) has recognized Congressman Comer for having one of the strongest voting records in Washington, DC with regards to his attention to fiscal issues and watching out for the interests of taxpayers. Congressman Comer has been a dedicated supporter for lowering taxes and maintaining the characteristics of limited government and economic freedom. This year, Congressman Comer is one of only 66 House members to earn the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” for his distinguished voting record during the 2017 Congressional session.

“This is a huge honor for me. I’ve worked diligently to do my part to ensure the government is operating effectively and not unnecessarily interfering in the lives of American citizens, especially when it comes to the use of taxpayer funds. It is my responsibility to my constituents to oversee good stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and I’m eager to continue my work to eliminate wasteful spending and protect Americans’ hard-earned dollars,” Congressman Comer said.

NTU, which has arguably the best, most comprehensive fiscal policy scorecard, included 98 Senate votes and 198 House votes in the 2017 scorecard. NTU’s rating program is designed to calculate a Member’s voting record on fiscal responsibility by evaluating every vote that has an impact on tax, spending, trade, and regulatory policy utilizing a methodical weighting system. Congressman Comer scored 88 percent (an “A” rating) on the group’s rating scale, the highest of the Kentucky House delegation. In comparison, the House average was just 51 percent, while the Senate’s average was 44 percent.

“Only lawmakers with a voting record that is the best-of-the-best will earn NTU’s Taxpayers’ Friend Award,” said Pete Sepp, president of NTU. “Congressman Comer has demonstrated a tireless commitment to supporting taxpayers’ interests in Washington, and a dedication to solving the government’s tax-and-spend problems with action rather than just words. Fixing America’s budget problems takes hard work, and he has been doing that work every single day.”

NTU has recognized Representatives and Senators since 1979 who annually earn high voting scores to qualify them for the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award.” See NTU’s full 2017 congressional scorecard and further analysis here.
