After serving 14 seasons as Head Coach for the Russell County Laker Football team, Bill Sharp has decided to step down. Coach Sharp took over a 3-8 team 2005, and quickly turned the program around, going 8-3 in his first season at the helm. He went on to compile a 73-81 record and win three district championship titles in his tenure. In the 2018 season, Sharp’s team posted a 4-7 record and fell in the first round of the KHSAA Class 4A State Playoffs to Franklin County High.
During his time as Head Coach, Sharp led the Laker Football team to three playoff wins during the 2010, 2012, and 2013 seasons. During the three-year stretch from 2011-2013, Sharp’s teams turned-in a 30-5 record, including the three district championships. Before being named the head coach, Sharp had been an assistant with the program since 1989. As an RCHS alumnus, he also played on the Laker Football team from 1972-75.
The Laker Football program will now search for a replacement as head coach.
