Volunteers are needed to help clean up around Lake Cumberland, on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Burnside Island State Park. Debris has settled above the shoreline in several areas after last month's historic flooding.
Tammie Nazario, President and CEO of Eastern Kentucky PRIDE (Personal Responsiblity In a Desirable Environment), says, "Debris and trash are all around the shorelines. It's a great opportunity to plan a cleanup and remove as much as possible while it's all concentrated."
Several fishing tournaments are planned this spring that should each attract hundreds of anglers to the lake.Tourism brings in millions of dollars annually for the five counties surrounding Lake Cumberland. Gloves, trash bags, safety vests and bins will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to dress for weather and terrain, particularly regarding footwear.
The Burnside Island cleanup will be from 9am to noon on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Volunteers should report to the first covered pavilion across from the park pool, where registration will begin at 8am.
