The Liberty City Council held a special called meeting yesterday. On the agenda was a discussion about garbage collection.
A representative from Republic Waste, Mr. Greg Butler, addressed the council concerning a bid for privatized collections of municipal & commercial waste in the city limits...
Republic currently handles garbage collections in Danville, Stanford and other neighboring communities. The city of Liberty just recently purchased a brand new garbage truck and new garbage cans for the city, which would hopefully be purchased by Republic waste. The council took no action, as they are required to advertise for bids.
A special committee was formed to discuss flood mitigation options. That committee will be made up of three city council members including Richard Montgomery, Carla Turner, and Micah Meece, as well as other members from the Tourism Commission and local business owners. The group will look at options submitted by the US Army Corps of Engineers to try and determine a course of action and submit that to the Corps for cost analysis.
