Today (Tuesday, July 16, 2019), the Adair County Sheriff's Office has received several phone calls from Adair County residents stating they've received calls from the Sheriff's Office. The calls consist of people being told they have summons or warrants on them that do not exist. These callers are using names of employees of the Sheriffs Office. Sheriff Josh Brockman tells 92.7 WAVE News that the Adair County Sheriff's Office will not ever call and ask you for personel information over the phone! The office does not except payments for fines over the phone by credit card, nor do they ask for them. The Sheriff's Office also does not call and tell you they have a warrant and are on their way to pick you up if you don’t make a payment.
If you receive one of these calls, please do diligence in making sure you are speaking with someone from the Sheriff's Office. The number that is showing up on most of these calls is 270-290-1369. Sheriff Brockman says the scammers are probably using an app to change the number, and they are trying to track down the source of the calls. If you have any information, call 270-384-2776.
