On Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 6:42pmCT, the Adair County Sheriffs Office received a call from 911 that a homeowner in the Fairplay community had come home and found two males had been in his house, and they were fleeing the residence. Chief Deputy Justin Cross was dispatched to the call as the homeowner was attempting to follow the suspect's vehicle at a safe distance.
Deputy Cross was able to locate the auto, a 2001 white GMC, and initiated a felony traffic stop at the 46 mm on the LBN Cumberland Parkway. Upon approaching the vehicle, the passenger, later identified as 24-year-old Zachary Paul Derman of Columbia, KY exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputy Cross pursued and was able to apprehend Derman over a half mile away from where the pursuit began. The operator of the vehicle, 24-year-old Estes Owens was taken into custody without incident.
Both men were lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail on the following charges:
- Zachery Derman: Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd degree (on foot); Burglary, 2nd degree (residence); and Criminal Mischief, 3rd degree
- Estes Owens: Burglary, 2nd degree
