On Tuesday, December 24, 2019 just after 4PM, Columbia Police Officers located a red Chevy pickup truck on Tutt Street after receiving complaints on the vehicle in the area. When Officers approached the vehicle after initiating a traffic stop, an open alcoholic beverage container was in plain view. There was also a 19-month-old male child in the truck with the driver.
After conducting on sight field sobriety tests, Officers placed James Taulbee, 49, of Winchester, KY in custody. Taulbee was transported to TJ Health Columbia where he refused blood draw. He was then transported to the Adair County Regional Jail on charges of DUI (2nd offense), Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Vehicle, and Wanton Endangerment 2nd degree.
The mother of the 19-month old toddler was contacted and was placed into her care.
CPD Officer Evan Burton made the arrest. He was assisted on scene by Officer Jordan Dean.
