Around 8:00pmCT, the Eli Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Structure Fire at 269 Highway 1383. The first arriving Engine radioed a confirmed Structure Fire with flames showing from side. Firemen were able to quickly attack the flames. The structure was an old church that had been converted into a home and all occupants were accounted for except the family pet who unfortunately perished in the fire. The building was approximately 30’ x 60’ in size with no basement. Crews made a great stop on the fire and additional crews were rotated out for several hours conducting an overhaul and checking for any hidden fires or hotspots.
Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 5 hours and were assisted by members of the Jamestown Fire Dept. (who provided mobile air refilled air cylinders), and Russell Co. EMS personnel.
Displaced occupants of the residence are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
