At approximately 8:30am on Saturday morning, January 20, 2024, Russell County Search & Rescue responded to a call for a capsized boat approximately 5.5 miles from Wolf Creek Dam on the Cumberland river. Two duck hunters from Alabama were drifting when they struck a submerged tree stump and overturned. One individual was able to make it to shore and the other was momentarily rescued by other hunters on the river. Both men did have life jackets but were not wearing them. Luckily both men did not require medical treatment and were able to walk to safety and a change of clothes.
While the individuals were changing, additional crews stayed behind and were able to recover their boat and some belongings, further proving the dedication that our local agencies have to their community and guests of our community. Great teamwork by agencies from Russell County Search & Rescue, South Russell fire department, Jamestown fire department, Jamestown dive team, Russell County EMS, Russell County Emergency Management and Russell County Dispatch.
