Rev. Herbert Janes, 81, of the Portland Community of Adair County, died Monday, June 6, 2022 at 6:23 P.M. at T.J. Health/Columbia. He was born July 28, 1940 in Adair County to the late Galeon and Sallie Keltner Janes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas Janes, four brothers: Lewis, Bill, Johnnie and Norman Janes and four sisters: Ruth Burris, Ernestine Kemp, Freida Smith and Sue Cundiff.
Rev. Janes was a retired United Methodist Minister, having Pastored and held Revivals in Adair and surrounding counties for over 43 years, a U.S. Army Veteran, a former heavy equipment operator and recently operated Poor Man’s Store in Portland.

1 daughter: Sacha Klein (Jayme) of Columbia
3 sons: Joey Janes of Portland, Doc Janes (Angie) of Fairplay and Micah Janes (April) of Milltown
2 brothers: Ollen Janes and Payne Janes both of Milltown
2 sisters: Phyllis Stone of Columbia and Retter Bailey of Campbellsville
16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren
Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Funeral service: Friday, June 10, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at Tarter’s Chapel Church (My Father’s House) with David Martin, Bro. Jimmy D. Cox and Bro. Larry Wisdom officiating
Burial: Tarter’s Chapel Cemetery with full military honors presented by V.F. W. Post 6097
Visitation: After 4:00 P.M. Thursday at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home and after 8:00 A.M. Friday at the Church
Grandchildren will serve as Casket Bearers
Grissom-Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
