Mary Josephine Hopper, 76, of the Salem Community, passed from this life to her eternal home on Sunday, February 26, 2023. She was born December 31, 1946 in Eli, a daughter of the late Irvin and Ilith Coffey Whittle.
She married Lowell Hopper on October 19, 1963. There were two children born to their union.
Mary Jo was a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church where she led Wednesday night children’s services. She loved her church family and cherished the “after Sunday Night service business meetings” held every Sunday night. Mary Jo loved to garden and enjoyed cooking and sewing. She put her many talents to use when she and Lowell would work together, building churches with the Carpenters for Christ. Mary Jo was a Christian lady who loved every one she met.

1 daughter: Becky Hopper of Salem
3 brothers: Larry (Lillian) Whittle of Russell Springs, Estes (Donna) Whittle of Stanford, and Frankie (Rose) Whittle of Covington
2 sisters: Nellie (David) Gaskin of Russell Springs and Donna Sue Goodin of Knifley
Sister-in-law: Neat Whittle of Gallatin, Tennessee
Along with her parents, Mary Jo was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Whittle.

Interment: Salem Cemetery
Visitation: After 11:00amCT on Wednesday
