Russell County, KY (August 2017) – Each year Kentucky Living Magazine asks readers to select the state’s BEST in travel, outdoor adventure, food, music, shopping and more. The votes were tallied, and the winners were announced at the 2017 Kentucky State Fair. Lake Cumberland was the 2017 1st Place winner for “Best Houseboating Lake” and was also in the Hall of Fame for “Best Boating Lake or River” as well as Hall of Fame “Best Fishing Lake.” (Hall of Fame is awarded for consistently placing 1st for 3 consecutive years). In the category of “Family Getaway”, Lake Cumberland placed 2nd in the state just behind Mammoth Cave. “We are so proud that Lake Cumberland was recognized for so many awards. 4 million people come to Lake Cumberland to vacation each year and enjoy houseboating, fishing, or just have a family getaway in one of our beautiful Cabins, Hotels or Lodges,” says Tourism Director, Janette Marson. She went on to say, “There are more rental houseboats in one location right here in Russell County than anywhere else in the United States; we are the mecca for houseboating. In addition, all across Lake Cumberland there are beautiful marinas with waterfront dining, great fishing spots, natural features such as waterfalls and more.” Lake Cumberland boasts 1,250 miles of shoreline and is 101 miles long with beautiful coves and crystal clear, very deep water.
