The suspect in the murder of a Somerset woman has confessed.
Somerset Police Chief William Hunt says Dwight Mitchell Bell confessed to the murder and robbery of 70 year old Ruthie Carolyn New. New's body was found in the activity center of the Denham Street Baptist Church August 24. Bell was found at a truck stop in Dandridge, Tennessee and arrested without incident. Bell was also wanted in Indiana on a strangulation charge as well. He was arraigned in court Wednesday morning.
Bell is lodged at the Pulaski County Jail. In 1999, Bell was convicted of manslaughter for the death of his father in Indiana.
