CASEY CO. FISCAL COURT

The Casey County Fiscal Court met in regular session Monday. Judge Executive Randy Dial announced the purchase of a Grade-All machine at a recent state surplus sale in the amount of $10,700. He commented this type of equipment would normally sell for around $300,000 if new, and would be a welcome addition to our county road department.

Representatives from Duo County Telecom addressed the Fiscal Court to propose a Franchise Agreement for public rights of way as part of the Kentucky Wired program, which would bring Fiber Optic broadband service to local government offices and businesses.  Judge Dial and County Attorney, Tommy Weddle, posed some questions to the Duo County group concerning future road projects, pavement excavations by the group in the event of service repairs, and the 20 year term of the agreement.
CEO Tom Preston, CFO Darrel Hammond, & Mark Henry, VP of Operations for Duo County emphasized that 90% of the project would be run on existing power poles. Also, that Duo County would pay for any excavation or relocation of their equipment. The group suggested the project would represent a $2 Million Dollar investment by their company, and would benefit Casey County in the areas of recruiting new business to our area while providing superior fiber optic service to certain areas where as now there is none. They also told the court that the project would be completed by June of 2018. The topic was tabled for further study and discussion.

In Road Department business, a ford dump truck was declared surplus property and will be up for bid in the fall consignment sale.
