An Adair County man was arrested on multiple charges after an incident that resulted in a state agency building and staff being put on lockdown.
On Thursday, October 5, 2017 at approximately 12:36 pm CT, Columbia Police received credible information that a threat had been made by an individual to come onto the property of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which houses the Family Support and Protection and Permanency. The threat went on to state that the individual was going to wait and "Pick off the employees one by one as they left the building".
Columbia Police sent on-duty officers to the building, as well as deputies from the Adair County Sheriff's Office. Off-duty officers were called in to secure the building and staff. Around 1:30pm CPD Sgt Gary Roy and Sgt JR Murphy located the individual and took him into custody where he was transported to the Columbia Police Department. At 3:00pm Sgt Gary Roy secured a warrant for the arrest of Danny Jeffries, 56, of Columbia, KY and placed him under arrest. He was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. Charges include Terroristic Threatening 3rd degree and Retaliating Against a Participant in a Legal Process. The case remains under investigation by Sgt. Gary Roy.
