Only a couple of items on the agenda for Monday's meeting of the Liberty City Council.
The first was a 2nd Reading of an ordinance relating to the 2017 Property Tax rate which will stay the same at .219 per $100 of assessed value. The vote was unanimous to leave the tax rate unchanged.
The second item was a 1st Reading of an ordinance to repeal an amendment to the Nuisance Ordinance. Again the vote was unanimous in favor.
Councilman Doug Johnson brought up an issue concerning Mobile Businesses setting up near like-established businesses. He proposed an ordinance restricting such businesses to 2 hours or less, and not to set up within 500 feet of any similar established business. After some discussion, Johnson made a motion for a Zoning Ordinance Amendment with a 2 hour time limit, but without the proximity restriction. Councilman Andy Lawhorn posed some reservations about such an ordinance. The motion died due to no one offering to 2nd the motion.
