SCAM ALERT!!  Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck warns the residents of Pulaski County of a Scam that has affected some members of our community.

Individuals, identifying themselves as officials of Publishers Clearing House, are calling victims and advising them that they are the winner of large sums of cash and/or automobiles.  The victim is then instructed to send a money order or gift card to cover the taxes and expenses associated with transferring the gift they have won.

Sheriff Speck advises the public "do not send money, personal information or anything of value to these individuals!"

Since this scam is targeting the elderly, the Sheriff encourages families to discuss how to handle this type of call with their elderly relatives before becoming victims.  Since many of these scam operations are located outside the continental US, prosecution or recovery of the victim's money is very difficult.  Don't make losing money to a Scammer a "learning experience" for you or a family member.
