On Wednesday, May 23, 2018 the Russell County Public Library held a groundbreaking celebration for the new public library, funded in part by a grant through the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives, and to be located on the corner of Hwy. 127 & 92 in Jamestown next to the Dollar General Market. Library Director Lindsey Westerfield said there were about 200 community members in attendance, with community members and leaders represented as well as a large group of children who enjoyed a special children's groundbreaking ceremony as well. The project, which has been in the Library Board's long range plan for more than 15 years, is finally becoming a reality with a modern facility that will increase operations and services to the county. Both current library buildings will be consolidated in to the new facility, which is slated to be completed in the spring of 2019.
