According to Sheriff Greg Speck, deputies responded to a single vehicle fatal accident shortly after midnight on Monday, June 11, 2018.
Deputy Marcus Harrison arrived on the scene of the single vehicle accident on Highway 39 approximately ten miles north of Somerset to find a yellow 2004 Pontiac two door automobile on its top in a ditch off the roadway.
The single occupant of the vehicle, Madison A. Hannah, age 17 of Linkes Drive, Somerset was thrown from the vehicle wreckage. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Danny Karriker.
Deputy Harrison's preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident revealed that the vehicle was southbound on Highway 39 when it failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the roadway entering a ditch line and rolled over several times before coming to rest on its top off the roadway. Speed and wet road conditions may have been contributing factors in the cause of the accident. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
Assisting deputies at the scene were EMS personnel, Woodstock Fire Department volunteers, Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad personnel as well as Trooper Adam Childers of the KSP.
