The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce is working with downtown merchants.
In an effort to support local businesses in the downtown area, which includes the public square and areas immediately surrounding, the Columbia-Adair Chamber of Commerce is working with merchants on a plan to increase activity in the area.
The purpose will be to coordinate activities, publicize businesses, and to encourage others to locate in the area. One of their first projects will be “To the 9s Downtown Market,” which will start on August 10.
“We are hoping that this effort will encourage the community to visit local stores in our town,” said Ellen Zornes, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce.
Currently around 15 stores will be participating in the event which include local boutiques, eateries, and specialty shops immediately around and one block off of the public square.
“The purpose is to support local business in the community and to showcase unique shops,” said Pamela Hoots, President of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce.
The 2nd Friday of each month local businesses will be encouraged to stay open later for customers in the area. The events will be publicized and communicated through local publications and the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce.
The focus is to bring people to the businesses and to encourage shopping local. The first Friday will be August 10 and the second one will be September 14.
