CHS Site-Based Decision Making Council members have hired Campbellsville Elementary School Assistant Principal Weston Jones to take over the CHS principal post. Council members met in special session on Monday, July 23, to announce the appointment. Jones replaces David Petett, who, after one year as CHS principal, will now serve as Director of Food Service and Federal Programs.
Campbellsville Independent Schools Superintendent Kirby Smith said Council members interviewed three quality applicants on Saturday, July 21. “But they wanted somebody in-house,” Smith said. “It was a tough decision for this Council.” Smith said he praises Council members for the time and thought they put in when considering the applicants. “I think Mr. Jones will do a fine job, and I’m sure he’s ready to go,” Smith said.
Jones, 32, graduated from Taylor County High School in 2004. He completed a bachelor’s degree in physical education at Campbellsville University in 2008, and a special education degree at CU in 2011. In 2017, Jones completed an instructional leadership degree with principalship at Western Kentucky University. He has worked for CIS for nine years, eight of which were spent teaching physical education at Campbellsville Middle School. Last school year, Jones was an assistant principal at CES. Jones has also served as a coach at CIS, in many capacities. He was the head softball coach for six seasons. Before that, he served as an assistant coach for three years. Jones also served as an assistant football coach for four years, and for two years each as head and assistant boys’ basketball coach. He is married to Hannah Jones, a third-grade teacher at CES. They have two children, Tate, 5, who will be a kindergartener at CES this school year, and Grady, 2. Jones is the son of Karen Jones and Mitchell Jones of Campbellsville. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, sports and spending time with friends and family.
