LWC OPENING WEEKEND IS AUG. 18-19

Columbia's population will increase by almost 25% during weekend of August 18-19, as more than 1,100 students are expected to move into the Lindsey Wilson College residence halls for the 2018-19 school year.

LWC's opening weekend is August 18-19, 2018 and fall classes will begin the week of August 20 on the A.P. White Campus.

The week sure to be a busy, but exciting time for students, faculty, and staff.

"The first few days of the school year are probably some of my favorite every year," said LWC Director of Student Activities Lafawn Nettles, the organizer of opening week activities and events. "It's a little hectic, but it's all worth it to see students new and old come together and start to really feel like LWC is a second home."

"It can be a challenging time, a lot of new students are especially nervous when they first move in. Whether it's through carnival games, free pizza, or movie nights on the quad, we're doing everything in our power to make sure the transition is as seamless as possible for new students."

LWC Assistant Dean of Students Andy McAllister says that not only will students get to have fun and meet new people, they will also get to take care of finalizing all the paperwork they may need for class registration and make lasting memories.

"Move In Day is an important event for everyone at the College but more so for our students." said McAllister, "Among the registration process of finalizing paperwork and taking part of all the activities held throughout the day, new friendships are made, while others get to reconnect with old friends, and it seems as though the college comes back to life after summer break. Also, let's not forget the memories students will gain, as many experience their first Move In Day and become part of the LWC family."

Last year, 2,562 students - including 1020 residential students - attended LWC. Enrollment this year is expected to be comparable. Student body president, Jakob Beckley, says he's been anxious to get back on campus and meet the class of 2022.

"I have been waiting all summer to get back on the hill of Lindsey Wilson College," said Beckley. "The most wonderful time of the year is upon us as we usher in hundreds of new Blue Raiders into the Lindsey Wilson College family and I couldn't be more excited. From posts I've seen on social media to what I've heard from faculty and staff, we're expecting a great incoming class."
