On Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at approximately 1:41pmCT, the Adair County Sheriffs Office, along Adair County Fire Dept., Adair County EMS and Adair County Emergency Management were dispatched to the Adair County Airport to a possible plane crash. Upon arrival, it was determined that a single engine plane had come up short of the runway and traveled over a large embankment and into a fence. The pilot, 72 year old James Michael Maloney and a passenger, 70 year old Linda Maloney, advised they experienced some problems with the aircraft and communicated on their radio for the nearest airport location, that being the Adair County Airport. The pilot advised that the plane had almost come to a stop, when it suddenly dropped off the end of the runway and was unable to stop, traveling down a large embankment, coming to rest in a fence. The pilot and passenger were not injured.
KY-FAA out of Louisville, KY advised they would be investigating the next day (Thursday).
