A small Casey County church could be out thousands of dollars after thieves stole gasoline from its van by drilling a hole in the gas tank.
Sunday school was underway at Middleburg Baptist Church when a member noticed suspicious activity. Casey County Sheriff's Deputies Geoff Brown and Bryan Shepard identified two vehicles involved through surveillance video. The vehicles were located on Means Road. The white truck was reported stolen from Lincoln County parks and recreation. Officers arrested Lynette Ballou, but the others got away. Ballou is charged with escape and parole violations, but police say she and up to three others are suspects in the crimes at the church. Police have identified the other suspects, but they are not releasing names at this time.
It is believed the suspects tried to get into cars during the church service. The van can't be driven until repairs are made, and church leaders fear it's going to cost thousands of dollars to fix it.
