3 PULASKI COUNTY MEN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES

According to Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck, three men face various drug charges after a Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday evening, February 5, 2019.

At approximately 9:22 PM Tuesday night, Deputy Steven Alexander was conducting routine patrol when he observed a 2006 Chrysler 300M with only one functioning headlight on Highway 3091 (Wilson Road). Deputy Alexander initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator of the vehicle, Tommy Wayne Vaughn Jr. age 41 of Stringer Road, Somerset, Kentucky.

After interviewing the driver, Deputy Alexander was unable to obtain consent to search the vehicle after suspecting the possible presence of illegal substances in the automobile. Deputy Brandon Smith and his drug detecting K-9, Leo were summoned to conduct a "walk around" of the subject's vehicle. A positive alert from the canine led to a search and discovery of approximately 14 grams of suspected heroin and 25 grams of suspected methamphetamine.  Drug paraphernalia and approximately $2,000 cash was also seized.

Tommy Wayne Vaughn Jr. was arrested and lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center without incident.  Deputies Alexander and Smith were assisted at the scene by Sergeant Richard Smith, Sergeant Kyle Wilson, Deputy Ryan Jones and Sergeant Daryl Kegley of the Sheriff's Office as well as officers from the Somerset Police Department and the Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force.

The Narcotics Division of the Sheriff's Office began an investigation into illegal drug trafficking based on information gained from the traffic stop.  Detective Sergeant Daryl Kegley of the Narcotics Division obtained a search warrant for a residence on Waycross Street in Somerset, Kentucky. Law Enforcement officials from the Sheriff's Office, Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force and the Burnside Police Department executed the search warrant at approximately 1:36 AM Wednesday morning, February 6, 2019 at the Waycross residence where they made contact with two adult males and two juveniles.

Dennis Craig Shumaker, age 60 of Waycross Street, Somerset and Shmaure De-Quan Woods, age 26 of Philadelphia Drive, Dayton, Ohio were arrested after 46 grams of suspected heroin, 64 grams of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, and baggies as well as a small amount of marijuana were discovered in the search of the residence.

Two juveniles in the residence were taken into protective custody by personnel from the Department of Community Based Services.
