Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck reports that a Nancy, KY man faces several charges after he attempted to flee from a Deputy on Saturday morning, February 16, 2019.
At approximately 6:00amCT Saturday morning, Sergeant Cary York observed a green 2015 Kia Soul driving erratically in the 3800 block of Oak Hill Road. When Sergeant York activated his emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop, the driver failed to comply.
The pursuit continued into the parking lot of Oak Hill Baptist Church where the subject continued driving recklessly in circles. After several minutes, the driver complied with the deputy's commands to exit the vehicle.
Douglas Eugene Gilbert, 30, of Highway 3277 in Nancy, KY was arrested and charged with:
1. Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs 1st Off
2. Operating on Suspended or Revoked Operator's License
3. Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree (Motor Vehicle)
4. Failure to Produce Insurance Card
5. Wanton Endangerment-2nd Degree-Police Officer
In the course of Sergeant York's investigation of the incident, he learned that Mr. Gilbert had been involved in an earlier accident on the same date near a residence on Ferry Road. A residential mailbox and a utility pole were damaged in that accident. Subsequently, an additional charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident was also brought against Mr. Gilbert by Sergeant York.
Douglas Eugene Gilbert was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center without further incident. Detective Joey Johnson of the Sheriff's Office and officers from the Somerset Police Department assisted at the scene.
