Russell Co. Judge Executive Gary Robertson has declared a "State of Emergency" in Russell County due to flooding. WAVE News spoke with Judge Robertson this morning.....
The declaration was signed earlier today (Monday, Feb. 25th) and says the county has sustained heavy rainfall and is experiencing heavy flooding. Damage assessment is not completed at this time and this situation creates a considerable hardship for the citizens of Russell County. Judge Robertson directs the local Emergency Operations Plan to be fully executed; the Russell County Emergency Manager shall direct the Emergency Management Dept. to provide assistance from available local resources and shall coordinate all agencies of local govt. to provide assistance to Russell County.
Under this State of Emergency, the Russell County Judge Executive can waive procedures and formalities otherwise required by the law pertaining to:
- performance of public work
- entering into contracts
- incurring obligations
- employment of permanent & temporary workers
- utilization of volunteer workers
- rental of equipment
- appropriation & expenditure of public funds
