A 2-vehicle accident in Adair County on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 resulted in one driver being flown to a Louisville hospital.
According to the Adair Co. Sheriffs Office, the accident occurred in the 7500 block of Liberty Road (Hwy 206). 74-year-old Lemuel Gaskin of Columbia, KY was operating an eastbound 1994 Freightliner pulling a 2016 B&B 38 ft. trailer. Mr. Gaskin tried to brake to prevent from hitting a vehicle that was stopped in traffic making a left hand turn, and skidded into the westbound lane, striking a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe operated by 29-year-old Charles Hicks of Columbia, KY. Hick's vehicle continued on, striking a culvert and overturning before landing upright in a field. Charles Hicks was transported by Adair EMS to TJ Health Columbia and later flown by Air Med to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of injuries. Lemuel Gaskin was treated at the scene.
The Adair County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Sheriff Josh Brockman, Adair County EMS, the Adair County Fire Department, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer C. Tooley
Adair County Deputy Sheriff Derek Padgett is investigating the accident.
