On Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 members of the Columbia Area HIDTA Drug Task Force made an arrest following an investigation in Taylor County. Arrested was 21-year-old Michael Smithers Jr. of Campbellsville, KY. He was lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center on charges of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance, 1st Offense (Heroin) and Wanton Endangerment, 1st Degree. More charges will be presented to a Taylor County Grand Jury and more suspects are expected to be indicted.
The Columbia Area HIDTA Drug Task Force includes the Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement Special Investigations WEST, KSP Interdiction, Columbia Police Department, and Campbellsville Police Department. All agencies assisted in this investigation.
