This morning (Friday, July 12) at 8:56amCT, the Adair County Sheriffs Office was dispatched to a single vehicle collision at the intersection of Holmes Bend Rd and KY551. Upon their arrival, it was discovered that 31 year old Stephen Edwards of Hardin County, KY was operating a 2008 Suzuki 1000 motorcycle, traveling north on KY 551 and failed to negotiate the curve. Edwards left the roadway, overturning the bike as he was thrown from it.
Mr. Edwards was treated on scene by Adair EMS until the Air Evac helicopter landed. He was then flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Mr. Edwards sustained serious head injuries and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Speed is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash as witnesses stated the bike had been traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.
Adair County Sheriff Josh Brockman is investigating the accident. He was assisted at the scene by Kentucky State Police, Columbia Police, and the State Highway Department.
