R.C. SHERIFFS OFFICE CITES ONE PERSON TO APPEAR IN COURT; ANOTHER ARRESTED ON THEFT & DRUG CHARGES

Two separate calls for police service over the weekend resulted in one person being cited to appear in Court on drug charges and another person being arrested.

According to Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston, on Sunday, August 25, 2019 Deputy Kenny Perkins was on routine patrol and stopped a vehicle being operated by 40-year-old Samantha Norton of 73 Luda Street, Russell Springs. The roadside investigation resulted in a consent to search her residence that resulted in the discovery of several ounces of marijuana. Samantha Norton of Russell Springs was cited to appear in Russell District Court. More charges may be forthcoming.

The second incident on Sunday involved a call to 520 East Hwy 619 (Bernard Ridge). The complaint came in as a criminal trespassing call. A neighbor advised they had seen a male subject in the area walking around the property and had taken off on a bicycle. Deputy Dustin Bunch observed a male matching the description and stopped to check him out. Upon further investigation he was identified as Shawn Johnson of Jamestown. A search of the suspect resulted in the discovery of pocket knives, watches and jewelry, all taken from a home that was burglarized by the suspect. Johnson also had 2 Circuit Court warrants for his arrest on previous theft-related charges. He was arrested on those warrants and also charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Russell County Jail. This case will be presented to the Russell County Grand Jury.

Sheriff Polston continues to remind all Russell County Citizens if you suspect drug activity or anything suspicious in your neighborhood, to contact the Russell County Sheriff's Office Drug/Wanted Persons Tipline at 270-343-8116, or contact Russell County Dispatch at 343-6600.
