The Columbia Police Dept. received a complaint on Saturday, August 31, 2019 of a female subject passed out in a vehicle, parked in a gravel lot near Sleep Inn and Goodwill in Columbia. A male and small child were also in the auto. Officers responded, however the vehicle was no longer in the area. A vehicle matching the description was later located at FiveStar on Hudson Street in Columbia. Officers made contact with the occupants, a Casey County man & woman and a 3-year-old male child. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of narcotics, drug paraphernalia and a crystal substance consistent with methamphetamine.
22-year-old Brandi Roberts and 21-year-old Joshua Wethington, both of Liberty, KY were arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance (unknown), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. Social Services was notified because of the presence of the child, who was later placed in the care of his grandmother.
CPD Officer Evan Burton made the arrest. He was assisted on scene by CPD Officers Jordan Dean & Adam Cravens, and KSP Trooper Allen Shirley.
