Columbia, KY - Lindsey Wilson College will recognize a very special anniversary Sept. 12-15, 2019 during the college’s Homecoming Celebration festivities.
The 116-year-old liberal arts college will celebrate 10 seasons since the return of the LWC football program during the college’s 88th homecoming. LWC football returned to Lindsey Wilson in the fall of 2010 after a 75-year absence.
“We are excited about partnering this special weekend with football,” said LWC Director of Alumni Relations Hannah Peck. “The football team is held to a high standard of character and always represents the college well. Coach Oliver is not only coaching but teaching these young men how to behave as good citizens of the world. We are so proud of everything he has accomplished in a very short time.”
The event packed weekend will also feature a reunion for current and former members of the football program, as well as reunions for the wrestling program, the Bonners Scholars program and a 50-year reunion for the Class of 1969.
Six alumni and one longtime member of the LWC college faculty will be honored at the Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 at 11:00amCT in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center.
The 4 individuals to be honored are:
- Valerie Murrell Adams ’90 of Columbia, KY - Distinguished Alumna Award
- Josh Conner ’04 of Mt. Juliet, TN - Outstanding Young Alumnus Award
- Chris Wells '01 of Columbia, KY - Distinguished Service Award
- Susan K. Minton of Columbia, KY - Honorary Alumna Award
The new members of the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame are:
- Amy Lankford Jones ’99 from London, KY - Women's Basketball
- Ronyeld Shirley '02 from Louisville, KY - Women's Basketball
- Chris Lashley ’92 from Buckner, KY - Baseball
The week of events kicks-off on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019 with LWC men's soccer taking on John Brown University at 2:00pmCT and women’s soccer taking on Spring Arbor University at 7:00pmCT. The matches will be held at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. On Friday, the LWC Volleyball team plays Life University at 5:00pmCT in Biggers Sports Center.
The Alumni & Friends Homecoming 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday morning, Sept. 14, 2019 at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St. Registration begins at 7:30amCT with the race starting at 8amCT.
The crowning of the 2019 LWC homecoming king and queen will be held at halftime of the football game between LWC and Faulkner University at Blue Raider Stadium, Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 820 Hanley Lane. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30pmCT.
An encore performance of Theatrefest! 2019 Summer Series production of "Black Comedy" begins at 7:00pmCT on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 in V.P. Henry Auditorium.
