According to the Adair County Sheriffs Office, this morning (Wednesday) at 2:46amCT, Adair County Deputy Joey Keith was dispatched to the 2000 block of KY 55 South. The original complaint was that someone was ringing doorbells of multiple residents in that area.
Upon Deputy Keith’s arrival, he saw a male subject walking and stopped to check him out as he was in the area of complaint. When Deputy Keith exited his vehicle and identified himself, the male subject fled. A foot pursuit ensued, leading across the roadway into a nearby field. Deputy Keith was eventually able to bring the pursuit to an end by deploying his taser. The suspect was them taken into custody and identified as 32-year-old Adrian Morales of Columbia.
After Morales was secured, with the assistance of Columbia Police Officers Adam Cravens and Jamie Cole, a search of the overgrown field was conducted in an attempt to locate a backpack. During chase, Deputy Keith observed Morales take it off and throw it. They were able to recover the backpack and inside was a loaded 40 caliber Glock handgun.
Morales was lodged in the Adair Co. Jail on the following charges:
- Wanton Endangerment of a police officer
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon .
- Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine
- Possession of Stolen property
- Fleeing and Evading Police
- Public Intoxication
The investigation is continueing by the Adair County Sheriffs Office.
