ADAIR CO. MAN FLOWN OUT FOLLOWING LOGGING ACCIDENT

An Adair Co. man was flown to a Lexington hospital following a logging accident on Wednesday afternoon.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to a logging accident 16 miles east of Columbia in the Neatsville community of Adair County.

Adair 911 received the call at 1:57pmCT of a 23-year-old that had been struck by a limb that fell from a tree. Due to being a distance back into the woods and the rough terrain, the Adair County & Knifley Fire Departments and Emergency Management were notified to assist. EMS worked to stabilize the patient and treat him on scene before they began to transport him.

According to witness statements, 23-year-old David Miller of Pellyton was cutting a tree down for harvest, when a large limb that was lodged came down. Another logger was able to see the limb starting to come down and was trying to get the attention of Miller, but due to the saw running, David couldn’t hear him and the other logger couldn’t get to him in time. The limb struck David in the head. He was wearing a hard hat, however the impact busted completely through the helmet.

At the request of EMS, a landing zone for air medical was established at a church in the area. Miller was loaded into the Air Evac helicopter and was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY where he is in serious condition.
