ADAIR CO. VEHICLE VS SEMI ACCIDENT SENDS 2 PEOPLE TO HOSPITAL; SPEED BELIEVED TO BE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR

The accident occurred on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 3:11pmCT. According to the Adair County Sheriffs Office, they received a call from Adair 911 to respond to the 3000 block of Cane Valley Road to a vehicle vs. semi collision.

Preliminary investigation shows that Jason Paul Jones Jr. was traveling north on Cane Valley Road and topped a rise on the wrong side of the roadway, striking a tractor trailer being driven by Edward Hughes. Mr. Hughes had pulled from a private drive and was traveling south on Cane Valley Road. The Jones vehicle slid approx. 294 feet before striking the trailer part of the semi. Mr. Jones was entrapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by the Columbia-Adair County Fire Dept. He was then treated on scene and transported to the Somerset Airport due to weather conditions, where he was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY. A passenger with Jones, Cameron Carson, was transported to TJ Health Columbia and also later transferred by EMS to the University of Kentucky Hospital. Edward Hughes, the semi operator, was not injured.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the collision and all parties involved were wearing seatbelts.

The collision was investigated by Deputy Chandler Staten who was assisted by Sheriff Josh Brockman. Agencies responding were Adair EMS, Columbia-Adair Fire Dept., and Constable Jason Rector.
