The accident occurred around 8:00pmET on Sunday, January 19, 2020. According to the LaRue County Sheriff’s Office, the 2-vehicle collision involved a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle and occurred around the 9000 block on Campbellsville Road.
19-year-old Charles Ishmael of Georgia was the driver of the passenger vehicle. Ishmael and a passenger, 18-year-old D’Jharriah Davis of Lexington, KY (a student at LWC in Columbia) were headed east on Hwy 210 towards Campbellsville, KY. A semi truck, being driven by 41-year-old Darin Powell of Dunnville, KY was headed west toward Hodgenville, KY. As the vehicles rounded a curve on a hill, Ishmael (for unknown reasons) crossed over into the westbound lane & collided with the semi.
Ms. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaRue County Coroner’s Office. Charles Ishmael was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Mr. Powell, the operator of the semi, was transported to the hospital by personal vehicle.
Highway 210 was closed for several hours while officials investigated the accident and cleared the scene. The wreck is still under investigation by LaRue County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Sherrard.
