On Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:53pmCT, Adair County Deputy Dereck Padgett initiated a traffic stop on a 2006 silver Ford in the vicinity of Wheeler Hill in southern Adair County. Following a roadside investigation, Deputy Padgett suspected illegal narcotics in the vehicle. K-9 Deputy Josh Durbin, along with K-9 "Nitro", responded to the scene. Nitro alerted to the scent of illegal substances in the auto so a search was conducted. Methamphetamine was found as a result of the search of the vehicle.
25-year-old Jared Wheat of Columbia, KY was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st degree (Methamphetamine), Expired Registration Plate and No Insurance.
Wheat was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. The investigation is continuing by the Adair Co. Sheriffs Office.
