While schools in surrounding counties have canceled due to illness, Adair and Russell County School districts have remained above the numbers which would warrant it as necessary to close. 92.7 WAVE NEWS spoke to school officials on Monday in both districts on the current number of students in the classrooms. Russell County was at 91.5% and Adair County at 91.69% on Monday. Usually when those numbers drop below 90%, that is when officials take canceling classes into consideration. The Kentucky Department for Public Health says new flu cases reported between January 19 and January 25, 2020 topped 1,700. The WAVE will continue to stay in touch with school officials and if classes are canceled, we'll pass that along to our listeners.
