The Adair County Sheriffs Office is preparing to transport seized firearms to Kentucky State Police Headquarters In Frankfort, KY where they will be sold or destroyed.
The firearms were seized during arrests made by the Adair County Sheriff's Office for criminal offenses. Most involved drug related offenses used in the commission of a crime OR found to be unlawfully in the possession of a convicted felon.
The cases involving the firearms have already been adjudicated in Adair Circuit and Districts Courts. Commonwealth Attorney Brian Wright and County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison Corbin petitioned the courts in each of the cases for the guns to be forfeited in accordance with KRS 16.220 and 500.080. Orders granting those motions were signed by Judge Judy Vance Murphy and Judge Michael Loy.
By Kentucky Statue, these guns will be turned over to the Kentucky State Police where they will auction them at a public sale or destroy them if unsafe. These funds will be used to assist law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth with the purchase of Kevlar (bullet proof) vests.
We are pleased to be able to remove these firearms from the ones in our community who chose to irresponsibly possess or use them.
