The City of Columbia’s Sanitation Department has just completed 4 weeks of surveys on all garbage in the city limits. This is the first time in 8 years that the survey has been completed.
The city’s ordinance stipulates that garbage for residential is $15.00 per month. Commercial and industrial rates are based on an average usage and/or accumulation at $65.00 per ton. Rates, as of the ordinance, remain the same.
As a result of the survey pertinent to industrial and commercial, some rates may be lowered, some remain the same, and some are higher. Also, it was found that some were not being billed for garbage.
