On Sunday evening, November 6, 2023, the Columbia Police Department responded to a single vehicle accident on the Public Square after a vehicle struck the Russell Building. Upon arrival, CPD Officers made contact with the vehicle operator and determined he was under the influence. Additionally, it was learned from witness statements that a female pedestrian and her son were nearly struck before the collision while walking on the sidewalk.
Justin Coomer, 38, of Columbia was taken into custody and charged with DUI 2nd offense, criminal mischief 1st, and two counts of wanton endangerment 1st.
Officer Bradly Bates was the arresting Officer. He was assisted on scene by Officer Joey Keith.
