The following press release is from Adair Co. School Supt. Jason Faulkner concerning "Soft Lockdown" this afternoon:
At approximately 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 2023, we were informed of a suspect that was fleeing local authorities and had made his way towards our campus. We immediately called a "Soft Lockdown". This safety measure requires all students to remain within the building, locks down all individual schools on campus at their exterior access points, and prohibits entry for all unauthorized personnel. I also dispatched all staff at the Board of Education to aid and assist at each of our schools.
We were informed that the Adair County Sherriff's Office, the Columbia Police Department, and Kentucky State Police worked together to apprehend the suspect at approximately 2:40pmCT on Wednesday. After learning of this information, we were able to follow our normal dismissal routines.
I would like to thank all of our parents for their patience and understanding during this event. I would also like to thank all of our local law enforcement branches and officers for keeping us informed of the situation as it unfolded. I would also like to thank our Principals, Teachers, School Resource Officers, and all other school district personnel that worked to keep our student's safety at the forefront. They were able to implement our safety procedures flawlessly and I can't say enough about how efficiently they were able to act.
