36-year-old Joseph Harrison of Columbia, KY has been sought by Adair County Law Enforcement for over 2 months related to a string of break-ins and thefts.
Harrison first became a person of interest in a theft from a break-in at a residence in the Gradyville community. Deputy Chandler Staten was able to substantiate evidence tying him to the break-in and a warrant of arrest was obtained.
Shortly after, the Columbia Police Department was able to link Harrison to a break-in they were investigating and Sgt Justin Cross obtained warrants of arrest in relation to the case.
Multiple locations and vehicles had been checked and attempts to locate Harrison had came up short. On Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 11:45amCT, Sheriff Josh Brockman received a call on his personal phone from a resident on Oxford Drive stating he had caught a man breaking into his home and gave chase, but lost him in the woods. The description he gave to Sheriff Brockman matched Joseph Harrison. Law enforcement officers from the Adair County Sheriffs Office, Columbia Police Department, and Kentucky State Police arrived and began searching the area. A couple of hours later, Harrison was spotted running into a junkyard adjacent to the Adair County Schools.
Multiple Officers from all agencies secured a perimeter around the junkyard and began searching. Sheriff Brockman made contact with school officials and as a precaution, the entire school campus was put on a "Soft Lockdown" due to the close proximity.
Approximately two and a half hours later, Harrison was located and arrested. He was charged with Criminal Trespassing 1st degree (felony), Fleeing & Evading Police 2nd degree, and 2 counts of Receiving Stolen Property over $1,000 (felonies). He was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
In addition to the current charges, multiple felony charges are pending by the ACSO in connection to additional cases involving 2 stolen vehicles and one additional residential break-in off Snake Creek Rd.
