Adair Fiscal Court Meeting Recap; Court Approves Pay Raises for Sheriff's Deputies

The Adair Co. Fiscal Court met on Tuesday evening, September 24, 2024 .

Amy Pike was approved as court clerk at $250 a month replacing Beth Cole who resigned.

The Court voted to increase Damon's CTA Gymnastics rent at the Jim Blair Center from $600 a month to now $1500 a month, effective November 1st. The business is owned by Damon Hicks who said he wouldn't mind so much if the rent was increased incrementally, but to go from $600 to $1500 was extreme and he may not be able to continue renting the Center at that rate. Magistrate Terry Hadley was the only court member who voted NO (against the rent increase), with Judge Exec. Larry Russell Bryant stating he was against this increase also. Magistrates & Recreation Committee and made the recommendation, saying others pay $25 an hour while Hicks averages around $8.10 an hour.

Permission was given for Jailer Buddy Powell to be added to all bank accounts for the jail and as a signer, and to remove Jamie Richard. Powell has been sworn in as the new Adair Jailer with Jamie Richard, who was serving as jailer, to be installed as Adair Co. Sheriff after Josh Brockman's resignation takes effect October 4th. Permission was given for the new sheriff to get all paperwork for bank accounts and all permissions for him to take office.

Jacob Burton and Miriam Hughes were appointed to the Tourism Board.

Breanna Talbott was hired as a part time dispatcher at the 911 center.

Ron Stone was hired as a temporary part-time custodian at the Jim Blair Center and at the Adair Annex.

The Court unanimously approved of a proposal by Magistrate Chris Reeder that includes pay raises for the ACSO. The occupational tax will remain at .5 cents per $100 of assessed value, instead of reducing it to .25 cents per $100. Deputies with 10 years or more of experience would receive a $5 an hour raise ($26.54 an hour); new hires who have not been to the Academy would start out at $18.50 an hour and increase to $20 an hour after training. Raises would be implemented at 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, and 20 years in addition to any cost-of-living raises approved by the Court.

The Adair County Fiscal Court meets on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of each month at 6pm in the Adair Annex basement meeting room. Meetings are open to the public.
