On Sunday, November 24, 2024, the Columbia/Adair County Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 12:18amCT to 1776 Bull Run Road on a report of a structure fire that was fully engulfed in flames. The 911 caller was unsure if anyone was at home.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully engulfed two story home on fire with three vehicles in the driveway, & one of the vehicles being on fire. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the original structure.
Once the fire was cooled down & having communicated with family and neighbors in the area, it was determined that there were two people unaccounted for. Firefighters then completed an extensive overhaul on the home and located two bodies inside.
Police have not released the names of the fire victims, however, WAVE News has learned the home was occupied by David Collins and his girlfriend, Charlotte Emmaline Keezer. Their families have been notified.
One firefighter was injured while fighting the blaze. He was transported by Adair EMS to TJ Health Columbia for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The firefighter has since been released from the hospital.
There were a total of 17 firefighters on scene for approximately 5 hours.
